Vimy Ridge

On April 9, 1917, Canadian forces fought German troops to seize Vimy Ridge, which was a strategic 14-kilometre long escarpment. Victory came in four days but at a heavy cost. 3,600 Canadians were killed and another 7,000 wounded.
The victory was a defining moment for Canada and Easter 2007 is the 90th anniversary of this event. Vimy monument is a 30 ton limestone figure located at Vimy Ridge park, which was dedicated to Canada by the French government in 1922. 11,500 Canadian soldiers died in France and Vimy monument (Twin Stone Pillars) lists the name of those soldiers. More than sixty thousands Canadians died During the First World War.
