Rogers Portable Internet

May 5th, 2007 Posted in Tech/Net

I was looking for high speed internet and Rogers Portable Internet caught my attention. Rogers has a special promotional sale going on and you can have light internet service at $20 per month for one year. The only catch is that you have to purchase the modem, which is about $100. I read some of the online reviews and most of those were not happy and reported problems. I decided to give it a try anyway.

I opened the box and connected the modem to my laptop, without reading any manual or installing any software. Surprise! It was truly plug and play. I hate to bombard my browser with a 3rd party  Add-on or bundled software, like Rogers Yahoo Internet. I am glad it did not force me to install it to get connected. The only drawback is you will not be able to use Rogers Yahoo premium email, if you don’t install their bundled software. The modem is very light and not bulky. You can take it anywhere with you and if there is a power outlet, you will be able to received wireless internet. Major Canadian cities are covered and Rogers is planning to roll out the service in smaller towns in the near future. I like portable internet because it gives me the flexibility to sit and work in a coffee shop, anywhere in Toronto as long as I am able to find a power outlet. I recommend it.
