Rogers Cable phone
June 12th, 2007 Posted in Canada and BeyondRecently my landline phone was changed to a cable phone by Rogers. Rogers was sending brochures and flyers describing many benefits of converting landline phone to a cable phone. This is not VOIP or internet phone. This is something like VOIP over Rogers private cable line. Switching from landline to cable must be saving Rogers a lot of money. Otherwise, they would not be doing it and also would not be offering two months of free service. I did not see any problems switching to a cable phone and it sounded like there were no other options. Also, who would be stupid enough to decline two months of free service courtisy of Rogers? Rogers tells you all the features of cable phone but it never mentions disadvantages, which i found out afterward.
I was never told that a new connection has to be made from the cable outlet to a wall outlet. To achieve this, new wire has to be mounted against the wall and the ceiling. This does not look good because the cable wire is very noticeable on the ceiling and wall. Also, the fat,odd-looking modem has to stay near the phone outlet and wires connected to it making tangle & clutter of messy wires. Had I known all of these beforehand, I would have never switched. But it’s too late now and I think it’s better to enjoy two months of free service before thinking of other alternatives.
NB: Cable phone won’t work without electricity
