CBC’s New Look

August 6th, 2007 Posted in Tech/Net

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation recently gave cbc.ca a new look. Although the new site is eye catching with colorful pictures, I don’t see it as being user friendly; its not easy to find what you would normally look for on a site as important as cbc.ca such as news, business news, etc.

The old CBC site had one great feature – easy layouts to find what you are looking for at your fingertips. It looks like CBC rearranged cbc.ca to make it a gateway portal for their radio and TV programs. Online visitors are a lot more interested in reading news than checking out radio and TV schedules. CBC should emphasize more on the materials people would like to read. An example is BBC World News Site. BBC is well-known for its world wide radio and TV programs. But BBC’s website has one primary objective – to provide visitors news. CBC should make their main portal a primary news site for Canadians, and radio and TV content should not occupy more than 35% of site’s space.
