How to Get $100 a Month Housing Allowance

Starting January 2008, eligible Ontario residents will be able to take advantage of Ontario’s new housing allowance program. ROOF (Rental Opportunity for Ontario Families) is a new Ontario Government program which will provide eligible families $100 per month to help pay the rent and it will continue for five years.

In order to be eligible, you must meet all following conditions:

  • You are a legal Ontario resident
  • You do not own a home for year round occupation
  • Your rent is more than 30% of adjusted family net income
  • You have filed 2006 tax return
  • You have at least one dependent child 18
  • Your family earned income is at least $5,000 and adjusted net income not more than $20,000
  • Your liquid assets equal to not more than $10,000
  • You are not currently receiving any social assistance or rent subsidy
