How to Get $100 a Month Housing Allowance
September 17th, 2007 Posted in Canada and BeyondStarting January 2008, eligible Ontario residents will be able to take advantage of Ontario’s new housing allowance program. ROOF (Rental Opportunity for Ontario Families) is a new Ontario Government program which will provide eligible families $100 per month to help pay the rent and it will continue for five years.
In order to be eligible, you must meet all following conditions:
- You are a legal Ontario resident
- You do not own a home for year round occupation
- Your rent is more than 30% of adjusted family net income
- You have filed 2006 tax return
- You have at least one dependent child 18
- Your family earned income is at least $5,000 and adjusted net income not more than $20,000
- Your liquid assets equal to not more than $10,000
- You are not currently receiving any social assistance or rent subsidy
