How to Get $100 a Month Housing Allowance
September 17th, 2007 Posted in Canada/TorontoStarting January 2008, eligible Ontario residents will be able to take advantage of Ontario’s new housing allowance program. ROOF (Rental Opportunity for Ontario Families) is a new Ontario Government program which will provide eligible families $100 per month to help pay the rent and it will continue for five years.
In order to be eligible, you must meet all following conditions:
- You are a legal Ontario resident
- You do not own a home for year round occupation
- Your rent is more than 30% of adjusted family net income
- You have filed 2006 tax return
- You have at least one dependent child 18
- Your family earned income is at least $5,000 and adjusted net income not more than $20,000
- Your liquid assets equal to not more than $10,000
- You are not currently receiving any social assistance or rent subsidy
