iPhone, Canada and Third World Countries
Starting July 11, Canadians will be able to dive into the iPhone hype. Rogers Communications is the first Canadian carrier to offer iPhone. Recent drastic price cut for Apple’s 3G iPhone makes it more attractive, and with a feature like GPS tracking – it will be hard-to resist for many consumers.
Rogers has not revealed any pricing details. However, it has been confirmed that you need to stick to a three-year term for the gadget. When it comes to cell phone (and mobile data) plans and services, we are years behind than many third world countries like Philippines and Bangladesh. Our plans and products are most expensive and ridiculous than most countries on earth. It’s like we are a third world country and those third world countries are first world countries.
I am waiting to see what Rogers has under its hood; till then, I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Tax Freedom Day 2008
The Fraser Institute reports that June 14th is the Tax Freedom Day for 2008. This year Tax Freedom Day arrived four days earlier that last year.
What is The Tax Freedom Day mean? This is the day when Canadians have paid off all taxes and start working for themselves. Every dollar you earn before June 14 goes to pay various taxes. Although Tax Freedom Day arrives four days earlier this year than 2007, we are two months behind U.S. citizens. The Fraser Institute is an independent research group based in Canada. You can visit The Fraser Institute’s website to view the full report and to calculate your own personal Tax Freedom Day.
