Yes CHH I would also like to have a Canadian based home finance program that works without being on line. I tried MS Money but it is US dollars or a conversion from US dollars. I just want to keep track of expenses and bank account. Automatic download of bank info not necessary.

A note on Fortora Fresh Finance. Bought it and have happily used it for the past 14 months. Relatively user friendly. Suddenly, just last week, it stopped working. Why? Well, as it turns out, I guess you don’t actually buy the program, rather you buy a limited time licence. Once it expires you’re left high and dry unless you want to buy another limited time licence. Guess I’m guilty of not reading the fine print. Bottom line, very disappointed.

This kind of “gotcha” seems to be all too common with software these days. After purchasing and using Quicken 1999 for ten years without any intrusion from Intuit, with upgrading to newer Windows platforms, I had to give it up. As related to Intuit, I purchased their Quick Tax four years ago and was irate that I couldn’t complete one tax return without having pop-ups to buy other or newer products. Further, I was inundated with unsolicited emails until I registered a number of strong complaints. I swore I’d never buy another Intuit product and I won’t.

I am presently using a free Financial program, “MoneyManagerEX”, which I really like but it has some bugs [doesn't seem to like O/S Windows 7] and support is hard to find.

All to say, I would like to find a Personal Financial program that works without being on-line, [whether it’s free or has a purchase price doesn’t matter]. Anyone?

Hi,

You cannot ignore Quicken requests that you pay for updates, if you use online banking. They force you to upgrade by demanding that you accept an 'update' that will destroy the functionality for importing transactions. If you complain, they will say that you agreed to this when you installed the software.

The best deal is to purchase Quicken bundled with the Intuit tax software.

John,
To answer your first question - visit this link on Quicken Canada website: How do I convert my Quicken for Windows data to Quicken for Macintosh? http://faq.quickensoftware.ca/detail.php?qbid=QK232&buid=QK
If it does answer your question, you can email Quicken support team. Your second answer: Yes, Microsoft stops supporting Canadian version. Your third answer: Fotora is a personal finance software program like Expensr. It's got more features but it is not free. Hope this helps.

I am considering sometime in the future of purchasing an Apple computer.....Presently I an using Quicken (Canadian version) to trck my finances. Will that run (or is adaptable to) an Apple computer? It is my understanf\ding that MS Money no longer puts out a Canadian version, so I'm not sure that that is an option. What is Fortora?

I recommend Fortora Fresh Finance (<a href="http://www.fortora.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.fortora.com</a>). It supports the Canadian dollar, and it's super simple to use. And best of all, it's available for both Mac and Windows.
